4 Challenges from Sports relief…

…I had the privilege of watching Sport Relief 2012 last week with my family along with watching the epic challenge John Bishop undertook which is well worth a watch. As I watched all that was going on I felt not only challenged to become part of all that was going on but also challenged in how I live…what do I mean?

Well to prevent me from waffling here are 4 ways I found what I watched challenged how I live:

1. This is about that: As I watched the various reports of the needs of individuals and the ways in which sports relief is seeking to provide for those needs I was struck with how attractive it is to make a difference and how they were revealing the nuts and bolts of what it means to be a follower of Jesus of bringing  justice, caring for those who are forgotten comforting those who are grieving and in pain.  I felt challenged as to whether sports relief was revealing more of the life Jesus offers than I do.

2. Cost: In watching John’s Bishop’s painful journey you couldn’t help be struck by the cost he had to pay physically and that sometimes to make a difference it costs.

3. Focus: I was also struck by the determination and focus of John Bishop he knew what he was doing and why he was doing it and nothing was going to take him off that goal. How easily my focus is taken away when I forget why I am doing what I am doing.

4. Together: The difference is made by individuals not just going it alone but by working together and supporting one another.

AT the end of the day these 4 challenges aren’t new or ground breaking  but maybe that’s the point maybe to live a life that changes the lives of others isn’t as complicated as we might think but is actually within our grasp.
