Alternative Vote Referendum – 5th May

On Thursday 5th May we’re given an enormous opportunity to directly participate in our country’s future. This is a chance to change the whole way we vote, how governments are formed and who will be our future leaders. Don’t let this scare you – this is a great privilege! If you’ve heard a lot about it but not what any of it is about then please have a look at these two links below: Emanuel Church, Oxford [here] and the BBC with a helpful infographic [here]

Momentum Weekend Away 2011

Recently Momentum (Students and 20s group from Oasis) had their annual weekend away to Cefn Lea in Wales. If you’ve not been before then you’re missing out because they’re quality. But if you want to know what happened this year read on:

Weekend away in Wales

-

Friday 18th – Sunday 20th March 2011

We enjoyed fun and unity within the group as together we discovered more of our true security in knowing God.

The weekend away gave the students of Oasis Church the opportunity to get out of the city and into the beautiful countryside of Wales. This gave us space to enjoy games and to contemplate God’s creation; the clear night sky on Friday night was made all the more beautiful by being away from the glare of city lights. This was also a great time for us to have fun, fellowship and to get to know each other better. We climbed hills, played rugby, football and table games and enjoyed an exciting and dynamic environment.

We were aware of the presence of God, especially during the talks, worship and prayer times and many of us felt able to open our hearts to God and be honest with one another.

What does it mean to you when God says “I will be your God”? This was one of the key questions of the weekend. It was intense as we were challenged to search our hearts to see where we honestly find our security.
We learnt that knowing Christ as our source of true security frees us to always be satisfied in Him.
We cannot rely on earthly things but we can always rely on Christ. Knowing Him and giving him control over our whole lives gives us security to stand firm through the difficult times.

We also looked at ‘A Call to Life’: understanding and practising our big call to love God and to love people.

If you couldn’t join us this time, we want to encourage you to join us next year.
