Week of prayer session 5…
Momentum! That’s the name of our work amongst students and 20s, and that’s what we prayed about in this session of our prayer week!
Mike and Becca Blaber led our time together, encouraging us to pray for a number of different things, all with a heart to see momentum in Momentum! Some of those things included:
1. The arrival of Freshers into Birmingham, and their need to be welcomed quickly into a church context that is right for them.
2. “Inviters!” – people who are good at inviting people to come to church.
3. Servers – new students willing to throw their all into church life, as so many of last year’s Freshers now with us, have done.
4. All the churches in Birmingham being blessed with students keen to make their home there.
5. A warm and genuine welcome for international students.
6. The Friday night “Impact” events at O’Neill’s on Broad Street to increase their popularity and be seen as accessible and enjoyable in their own right, but also a stepping stone into other church events.
God reminded us of the time when Jesus directed the disciples to throw thier nets on the otherside of the boat after a night of catching no fish…and then suddenly the nets were bursting! This was an encouragement to receive and welcome students from whatever country, culture, faith or upbringing, and draw them towards Jesus with him leading all the great initiatives that so many of the churches and Christian Unions have planned for this time of year.
