Small groups

Small groups

In Oasis, we want people to be valued, understood, supported, encouraged…known! Known and loved by others; knowing and loving others! Subsequently, the life blood of Oasis is ‘Small groups’. These are exactly what they sound like – small groups of people that meet together regularly to get to know each other and to get to know God. They’re fun, accessible, open to everyone, and not compulsory! But, once you’re in a small group, you’ll probably always want to go!

Oasis Small groups:

Dave and Saskia Pelham – Thursday, 7pm, Kings Heath

Who are you? We are a young (ish!) married couple, who have really seen the benefit of getting involved more in church and small group life in the last couple of years. Originally we were part of Dan and Emma Shaw’s group, which multiplied earlier this year. Now our group seems to attract people in their 20’s, including some students, but that said we are totally open to all comers!

What can a visitor expect? A home-cooked dinner – our main selling point! Currently we’re working through a study on ‘Boundaries’ in our own lives and relationships, which involves some DVD clips, reflection and discussion! We also spend time praying for each other.

How is your group different to the rest? Our group provides an opportunity to really get to know some other people from church, share in their lives, and sample their cooking (nothing like Come Dine With Me we promise!)

Rob Coleman and Yvonne Evans – Thursday, 7.15 for 8.15 start,  South Birmingham

Who are you? We both have curly hair and prefer to wear autumn shades! We like to ride bikes and share the same birthday year.

What can a visitor expect? Our group is relaxed and informal, enjoying fellowship and sharing cake and chocolate! We pick themes raised in the sermon and explore the bible further together.  We like to think we are a fairly open and honest group.

What makes your group different? We are different from other groups because we start on time!!!

Mike and Pam Hurst – Thursday, 8pm kick off, Kings Norton

Who are you? We are young grandparents who moved to Birmingham in 2003.  We have been involved in leading small groups for several years and love to see people grow in relationship with God and with each other.

What can a visitor expect?  You can expect a warm welcome, a time catching up over coffee etc and then, a time of building faith together, including at various times, meals together, worship, and prayer for one another.

What makes your group different? Our small group is made up of great people aged from 30 to 60 plus. We share life and enjoy encouraging one another.  We love to meet new people.  We encourage people to be involved in serving at church and in the community.

Alison and Richard Stunt – Wednesday, 7.30 – 9.30, Balsall Heath/ Sparkbrook

Who are you? We have been married for 8 years and have 2 children. We live in Balsall Heath out of obedience to God, not a love of curry. Alison has a thing for Russia…..Richard has a thing for skiing.

What can a visitor expect?  On any evening at our house you can always expect good coffee (including decaff). sometimes cake, sometimes a meal, always good conversation, always reality, always His presence. We have singles and couples in 20’s, 30’s and 40+ age ranges.  We love to be family regardless of age and stage.

What makes your group different? Not for the faint hearted or those who enjoy the rut, this group is for people who want to know the presence of Jesus, be changed, be obedient, and see the Kingdom come and His will done on earth as it is in heaven.

Tom Baldwin and Becky Webb – Thursday, 8.00, Ladywood

Who are you? Tom: I’m studying graduate entry medicine at B’ham Uni. I did my first degree in Nottingham and spent 3 years after graduating working for Trent Vineyard Church before moving to B’ham. Becky: I enjoy making new friends, talking to people and drinking tea. I’m a primary school teacher and before my PGCE lived in Wales where I studied Geography.

What can a visitor expect? Our group is mostly 20s-30s, with a mixture of single and married folk.  We have a real mixture of backgrounds and life experiences. The group is relationally focused, we spend time catching up and discussing the passage from the latest sermon getting to know Gods character more; allowing His Word to challenge and change us.

What makes your group different? Our group is an example of how the grace of God is working in our lives, allowing Him to take our brokenness and bring restoration and healing.

It’s likely we have a small group near to where you live so please contact us to find out their locations at admin@theoasischurch.com
